LJBi7BPWMoving to Austin in 2005, he landed a gig playing bass with Hillbilly & jukejoint swing master Wayne “the train” Hancock.  After a two year stint touring with Wayne, he hooked up with local tune smith Leo Rondeau playing upright bass. Before, during and after a nearly five year run playing and touring with Leo, Howdy played around Austin with other notable acts such as Love Gone Cold, Brennen Leigh, The Doolins, Horse Opera, Noel McKay, Robert Banta, Combo Mahalo, and Lucky Tubb. After his time in Rondeau’s band, Darrell began to focus more on songwriting and teamed up to collaborate with Horse Opera’s Jimmy Deveney to co-front the band playing rhythm guitar and most recently recorded a full length album of original tunes under his own name.
